Bonsai(pronounced bone-sigh), in Japanese translation means "tray planting" or "tree in a pot". This art form consists of the planting of a living tree into a small pot or tray and maintaining it in a dwarfed or miniaturized state.

It is believed to have originated in China, during the Han Dynasty over two thousand years ago. Later around the fourteenth century, or possibly earlier, bonsai was adopted in Japan and refined into what we may most commonly see today. Bonsai is a wonderful adventure in art, combining human sculpture and nature into something to to be cherished for generations.
