Heirloom sewing describes vintage inspired needlework techniques used to make items such as Christening gowns, children's clothing, lingerie, wedding gowns, other garments, quilts and pillows. The techniques imitate French hand sewing from the early 1900s. Heirloom sewing designs are feminine, usually white with dainty trim. A couple of the techniques often used in heirloom sewing include smocking and whitework embroidery. Though heirloom sewing is done to look like hand sewing, it is usually done on a sewing machine.
