SECTION 2):*~*: Help Hurricane Katrina Victims through Arts & Crafts
What others are doing and what you can do.
In the aftermath of hurricane Katrina, there is still much that needs to be done to help victims who were displaced and otherwise affected by the storm. Making a donation to the Red Cross(www.redcross.org) is an excellent way to help out, but there are other ways you can offer assistance as well.
Some artists and crafters are using their talents to raise money for the Red Cross and other reputable charity organizations. The following news article link tells the story of what one 81-year-old crafter in Florida is doing to help out:

Another way to offer assistance is by getting involved with arts and crafts charities. Here is a list of some of these charities and the types of items they are accepting donations for to help hurricane Katrina victims:
Crafters United is raising money for the Red Cross through craft auctions. They have raised over $15,000 so far and have set a new goal of $20,000. Their original goal was to raise $1000. They are accepting donations via auction format for all types of handmade items.

Project Linus, a charity that supplies blankets to children in need, is working quickly to identify the need for blankets in shelters, hospitals and other facilities set up to help children affected by the storm. They are accepting new, washable, handmade blankets. Their goal is to get these blankets into the hands of children as soon as possible.

Quilts.com has announced that their project, Quilters Comfort America, an effort to get quilts to hurricane evacuees, has been a huge success. You can read on their website about where these 1000s of donated quilts have been sent.

The Shawl Ministry has made arrangements to distribute handmade shawls.
