SECTION 2):*~*: Play-Doh is Celebrating it's 50th Birthday

When thinking back about the first arts and crafts projects you've ever done, Play-Doh probably comes to mind. Since 1956, when Play-Doh was only available in off-white, children have been fascinated by the now colorful modeling compound. Celebrations for the 50th birthday began back in January of this year and will continue throughout the rest of 2006 with new products being launched along with special events and activities.

At the American International toy fair, held this past February in New York City, a huge "birth-doh" cake was on display. The Food Network's celebrity chef, Sugar Rush, baked the cake using play-doh as the main ingredient. Visit http://www.hasbro.com/playdoh/default.cfm?page=50thbday_cake to view the giant, brightly colored cake.

New products include a perfume named "eau-de-PLAY-DOH" that was released in time for Mother's Day. The perfume smells like, you guessed it, Play-Doh. Hasbro, who bought Play-Doh in 1991, says it's for "fun, highly-creative people who seek a whimsical scent reminiscent of their childhood". The fragrance is only available through the end of the year. You should start seeing it available in stores this summer with one ounce bottles selling for about $19.

On the play-doh website, http://www.hasbro.com/playdoh/, you can find step-by-step instructions to sculpt a variety of objects with play-doh or another modeling compound, ranging from beginner to advanced. At the link below you can view all projects currently available. Check back often, we may be able to expect new projects on their website throughout the year.
